STEREOCHEMISTRY

June 20-25, 2004
Salve Regina University
Newport, RI

Chair:
Carol L. Ensinger

Vice Chair:
Erick M. Carreira

Dear Prospective Attendee of the GRC on Stereochemistry:

Once again, this biannual meeting will convene at Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island, June 20-25, 2004. I trust that after looking at the list of topics and speakers below that you will share my eager anticipation for a week of excellent presentations and stimulating discussion. For information on poster sessions, discussion leaders and what the town of Newport has to offer, see below.

This site will be updated regularly with fresh information, so please visit again.

Poster Sessions:

Two sessions are planned for Monday and Tuesday afternoons (4-6 PM). A third may be added on Wednesday afternoon if enough submissions are received.

If you are interested in presenting a poster(s), please email Conference Vice-Chair Erick Carreira with a title, complete list of authors, affiliation and address by June 1, 2004. An abstract, although helpful, is not required. Please be advised that if you send this info to the GRC office, it may not reach Erick.

Invited speakers should feel free to submit posters; however, the poster content should not be redundant with the content of their oral presentation.

In keeping with the spirit of the Gordon Conferences, poster content should be largely, if not entirely, unpublished work. Recently submitted or "in-press" material is fine.

In addition, Erick and I will choose at least two posters to be expanded upon as short talks. Posters submitted by invited speakers will not be considered for promotion in order to achieve participation by the maximum number of attendees.

Finally, plan to bring your own pushpins or thumbtacks, as these are not provided by the Conference. Display boards (4ft by 8ft; 1.2m by 2.4m) and easels will be provided.

Discussion Leaders:

Several slots are still open. If you would be interested in serving the Conference in this important role, please email Conference Chair Carol Ensinger as soon as possible.

What to Do in Newport:

In contrast to other Gordon Conferences, Stereochemistry does not have a strong tradition of activities like golf outings or softball games. The reason for that, I think, is really pretty simple: this Conference has Newport! The center of this beautiful, history-filled town is only 1.5 mile (2.5 km) from Salve Regina. It is an easy walk, but public transportation is also available. For more information about what to see and do in Newport, I suggest any one of the following very informative websites:

http://www.gonewport.com (the "what to do" and "getting around" links are especially helpful)
http://www.newportri.com (a very comprehensive website)
http://www.newportmansions.org (dedicated to the summer "cottages" of Newport's Gilded Age)

I look forward to seeing you at Stereochemistry next summer!!

Regards,
Carol Ensinger
